You may be able to save big on your utility bill by enrolling in New York State’s Energy Affordability Program (EAP)! Half of all New York State Households are eligible for monthly discounts through EAP, and if your household participates in other programs like the Home Energy Assistance Program, you will be enrolled automatically.  

Even if you are not currently enrolled in other assistance programs, you may be eligible for EAP based off your income. You can apply online by visiting ny.gov/EAP. Households at or below the following income levels are eligible for monthly utility discounts: 

Some households will not be automatically enrolled in EAP despite being eligible due to customer privacy restrictions that prevent automatic enrollment. These households can self-enroll to receive EAP discounts by applying online. This applies to households currently enrolled in: 

• Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) 

• Medicaid 

• Veterans’ Disability or Survivors Pension 

• Supplemental Security Income 

• Lifeline Telephone Service Program 

• Federal Public Housing Assistance 

• Utility Guarantee 

• Direct Vendor programs 

• Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) 

• Safety Net Assistance 

• Bureau of Indian Affairs General Assistance 

• Head Start 

• Tribal TANF 

• Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations
